The Delhi Shops and Establishments Act is a state-level legislation that governs the working conditions of shops and commercial establishments in Delhi. The Act was enacted to regulate the working hours, rest intervals, overtime, holidays, and other conditions of work for persons employed in shops and commercial establishments in Delhi. Under the Act, every shop or commercial establishment in Delhi must obtain a registration certificate from the local municipal corporation or other authorized officer within 30 days of starting its operations. The registration certificate is valid for a period of five years and can be renewed thereafter.

The Act also lays down certain obligations on the employers of such establishments. Employers are required to maintain registers, records, and display notices and information relating to the working conditions of their employees. They are also required to ensure the safety and welfare of their employees by providing them with clean and hygienic working conditions, drinking water, and adequate lighting. The Act provides for penalties for non-compliance with its provisions, which may include fines or imprisonment. However, it also provides for the establishment of a separate tribunal to hear and dispose of complaints and disputes arising under the Act.
